Julia has lived in Lewisham East constituency for many years and was a councillor for Downham ward for 12 years. She has an excellent understanding of the issues affecting the area, where the Liberal Democrats came second in 2010.
As Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrat Council Group, Julia has proposed winning motions on issues such as parking, cycling and healthy food for young children. She took part in the marches and protested outside the Department of Health in support of the recent campaign to protect services at Lewisham Hospital.
Julia chaired Lewisham’s Children and Young People Committee for four years and was a member of the Adoption Panel for six years. She also served on the Sustainable Development Committee, the Standards Committee and the Pensions Investment Committee.
Julia is very involved in the local community. She has chaired the Downham Local Assembly, chairs a local children's centre committee and is a school governor at a local primary school and children’s centre, is on the Council of Management of Lewisham Youth Theatre and chairs the Downham Celebrates Committee, helping to organise popular local festivals.
During the campaign Julia will highlight important issues for the area such as improving prospects for young people through opportunities for skills training and encouraging more to be done to attract inward investment and jobs. For too long Lewisham has had the worst record on jobs of any borough in London. Her other priorities include housing, improving air quality and the environment and maintaining high standards in health and social care.
