The Liberal Democrats work with the
Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) in order to promote democracy in transitional states in Eastern Europe and Europe’s neighbours, the Middle East and Africa.
The grant given to the party by the WFD allows us to work with sister Liberal parties in order to promote party development, fundamental for any functioning democracy in the three core regions. The Liberal Democrats currently coordinate the work of the
Africa Liberal Network, whose secretariat is based in Cape Town, South Africa. For more information about our work in Africa, contact
Aimee.Franklin@africaliberalnetwork.org . Throughout the three regions, we work to promote the engagement of women and youth in the political process; and to strengthen parties, not just at the state level, but also at the regional and local levels.
In addition to the WFD programme, the Liberal Democrat International Office also coordinates the international relations of the party through membership of
Liberal International, a worldwide federation of Liberal parties, and also the Alliance of
Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), a European network of Liberal parties.
Parties, and organisations interested in discussing our Westminster Foundation Democracy programmes or our international work should write to: International Office, 8-10 Great George Street, London, SW1P 3AE, or contact Iain Gill, Head of International Office at
