Welcome to the international pages of the
Liberal Democrat website
These pages have been funded by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, the
UK’s primary democracy building organisation, and are maintained by the
International Office of the Liberal Democrats.
Established in 1992, the objective of the Westminster
Foundation for Democracy is to support the process of democratisation overseas
by strengthening civil society and political parties. In its relatively short
existence, the Foundation has developed a deserved reputation for its work in
developing and sustaining democracies across the world.
The Foundation
gives grants to the main British political parties to enable them to run
projects with like-minded political parties in emerging democracies. The Liberal
Democrat International Office manages these projects on behalf of the Party,
focusing on Central and Eastern Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States,

The Liberal Democrat Party
works closely with Liberal International, the world-wide federation of liberal
parties, and ELDR, the European
Liberal Democrat and Reform Party, in addition to co-operating with other
liberal grant-giving foundations around the world.
