Liberal Democrats International Office works across the continent with our sister parties from over 20 countries.

international work

Through our work with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, we make a tangible impact on the quality and space for political participation in many countries in the region in many vital areas. We actively support our sister-parties using unique peer-to-peer relationships as a learning model. This support enables them to organise their party in a way which effectively engages young people and women as well as guides them to develop structures which are essential to ensure that the parties’ elected members can represent the views of the wider party. We also assist in strengthening internal policy-making mechanisms and work together to develop effective and efficient campaign base for our partners.

One of the key objectives of our work, especially in the former communist states, is to guide our partners through this transition period from post-communism to open, transparent and participative democracy.

We currently work with our sister-parties in Moldova, Georgia, Serbia, Bosnia, Slovenia and Macedonia.
