Loraine Birchall

Police and Crime Commissioner Candidate for Cumbria

Loraine is an experienced project manager/consultant with a sound understanding of business. Her family has a long connection with Cumbria Special Constabulary from which many regular officers are drawn. Loraine is the daughter of a retired senior member of Cumbria Special Constabulary, her brother and her husband were both Section Officers in the Specials. She has lived in Cumbria since 1977 and has a teenage son.

A volunteer Board Member of South Lakes Housing, sitting on both the Finance and Development Committees, Loraine contributes to the strategic vision in many areas. As a community activist and fundraiser for a variety of local causes and is a Parish Councillor in Great Urswick, Loraine is committed to the community.

Cumbria Constabulary keeps our communities safe, acting as a vital link to many communities and supporting cut preventing initiatives. Loraine is determined to protect the Police in Cumbria from the next round of Conservative cuts, but believes they need to work closely with voluntary organisations and faith groups to help deliver certain services. In order to make the best of available resources and maintain service levels a range of measures including the sharing of resources (such as offices, admin and possibly even staff) with other constabularies should be considered.

Loraine will make difficult decisions in challenging times. She will be a strong voice to represent your views and hold the Constabulary to account. Trust is an issue in some areas and she will work with to ensure Cumbria receives the services it needs and deserves.
