Commenting on tonight’s Channel 4 News report concerning payouts to civilians
injured by the British military in Iraq, which highlighted the case of one
critically injured Iraqi, Liberal Democrat Shadow Foreign Secretary, Edward
Davey said:
“This terrible tragedy highlights the complex risks of
fighting in a war amongst civilians, as well as the hidden costs of our presence
in Iraq.
“The Government’s lack of openness on these civilian
compensation issues just adds to its poor record on compensation cases for
British service personnel and their families.
“The war in Iraq has
already cost thousands of lives and billions of pounds. This tragic revelation
brings home the continued human and financial impact, both at home and
abroad.”
