Commenting on Unicef’s claim that the Government is not doing enough to prevent children being trafficked into Britain, Liberal Democrat Home Affairs Spokesperson Mark Hunter MP said:

"It is difficult to imagine a more evil practice than the trade in children who are moved across international borders for the purposes of the sex trade.

"Thousands of women, girls and boys are trafficked into this country every year to be sexually exploited, yet the Government insists on treating the victims as criminals or illegal immigrants.

"The time has come for Britain to sign the European Convention on Action Against Trafficking in Human Beings and prove it is serious about ending the misery caused by this abhorrent industry."
