Liberal Democrat MP Bob Russell, from Colchester, will on Monday ask Sports Minister, Richard Caborn MP, "what recent discussions he has had with football authorities on the Governance of the professional game."
There has been a string of accusations over the past few weeks about bungs and the role of agents within the game.
Commenting Mr Russell said:
"There is a feeling that perhaps there may be some rotten apples in the barrel and therefore only an enquiry carried out by those independent of football are likely to find them.
"I hope the minister will be able to give an encouraging response from the Minister who like me is a football fan."
