Stansted expansion plans absolute folly - Rowen
30 January 2007

Mr Paul Rowen

Responding to the publication of plans for a second runway at Stansted Airport by airport operator BAA, Liberal Democrats have today attacked the Government’s aviation strategy.

Calling for a new aviation strategy that is genuinely environmentally sustainable, Liberal Democrat Transport Spokesperson, Paul Rowen MP said:

"The Government’s ‘predict and provide’ strategy for air transport is fundamentally flawed. A new approach is needed to help reduce emissions from aviation.

"In light of the Stern Review, the Government must urgently revise its plans for aviation expansion.

"It is absolute folly to make plans to expand airports in the south east of England."
