"Cameron and Hague will waste years on this fruitless political game instead of pushing for real action to help Britain," said the Liberal Democrat Leader.
In a speech today on the future of Britain’s place in the European Union at the Centre for European Reform, Nick Clegg said:
“David Cameron is going to turn the clock back more than 30 years and repeat Harold Wilson’s foreign policy mistakes all over again.
“Instead of securing Britain’s interests in Europe and the world, Cameron and Hague will undermine them by scurrying from capital to capital begging for symbolic and pointless changes to EU institutions for cheap political benefit at home.
“No-one will take them seriously, and unable to influence the Europe Union, they will count for nothing in Washington either.
“Just like Wilson and Callaghan before them, Cameron and Hague will waste years on this fruitless political game instead of pushing for real action to help Britain be strong in the world and keep us safe and prosperous.”
