“It is shocking that so many care homes and services are rated as providing poor care," said the Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary.
Commenting on today’s report from the Care Quality Commission on social care services which reveals that 400 care homes are rated as poor, Norman Lamb said
“It is shocking that so many care homes and services are rated as providing poor care. The owners of these homes and other services should be told that unless urgent improvements are made, then they will face closure. We cannot tolerate elderly and vulnerable people living in these conditions.
“It is scandalous that standards of dignity and respect for residents in care homes has fallen in the past year. There can be no excuse for such disgraceful shortcomings.
“The social care system is failing too many people. The Government has presided over an emerging crisis while failing to deliver reform and its latest proposals do nothing to address these problems. We need to establish a cross-party commission and commit to implementing its reforms.”
