“The Government’s headline-grabbing announcements haven’t even scratched the surface of the problems young people are facing in this recession," said the Liberal Democrat Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary.
Commenting on today’s unemployment figures showing youth unemployment at a record high, Steve Webb said:
“This is another sad milestone for young people.
“That slightly fewer people are claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance will prove cold comfort to the record number of young people who are looking for work.
“The Government’s headline-grabbing announcements haven’t even scratched the surface of the problems young people are facing in this recession.
“People looking for work shouldn’t have to wait 6 months to get intensive support.
“There needs to be help from day one so that young people get the support they need to get into work.”
