Ethnic Minorities Liberal Democrats

The Ethnic Minorities Liberal Democrats (EMLD) exists to develop the education, participation and representation of ethnic minorities and others within the party.

EMLD organises recruitment and training and promotes ethnic minority members towards greater involvement in the political processes of the party.

EMLD pursues a policy of equal opportunities for all and is seeking positive action to bring about equal opportunities for ethnic minority members of the Liberal Democrats.

EMLD is an SAO - a Specified Associated Organisation - which exists within the Liberal Democrat Party. As such it has various rights enshrined within the main Federal Party Constitution, which we use to accomplish our objectives. Because of this though you do have to be a member of the party to be a member of EMLD.

Our objectives

Promote the interests of all individuals within and outside the party, regardless of their race, religion, age, ability, gender, sexuality or background.
Campaign and work with the ethnic minorities to promote the objectives of the party
Encourage, guide and assist EMLD members to play a full role in the democratic processes of the party at all levels
Ensure that formulation of party policy takes due regard of the needs and views of ethnic minorities
Recruit new members of the Party and EMLD and encourage existing members to renew their membership
Work towards an equitable representation of members of ethnic minority communities on public bodies and in elected public office
Campaign and work with ethnic minorities to promote and project a positive image of ethnic minorities in the United Kingdom
Promote Liberal Democrat policies and beliefs amongst ethnic minority groups
Raise the necessary financial aid and other resources to aid the achievement of these aims and objectives

How to join

Membership is open to anyone who is a member of the Liberal Democrats. The minimum membership fee is £3.00, but if you can pay more than this it will help our campaign funds. You can join online or obtain a form via the EMLD website.
