Willie Rennie is the Leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats and Member of the Scottish Parliament for North East Fife.
Willie won the North East Fife constituency back from the SNP at the Scottish Parliament election in May 2016 with 44% of the vote and a 3465 majority, up 15.4% on the 2011 result.
Willie Rennie was MSP for the Mid Scotland and Fife region from 2011 to 2016 and before that, Member of Parliament for Dunfermline and West Fife between 2006 and 2010 winning a stunning by-election from Labour.
Willie Rennie is a Fifer. He grew up in Strathmiglo, where his family ran the village shop and still live today. His grandfather was the local Minister and his mother was secretary of the local community association. Willie is married to Janet, and has two sons.
Willie went to college in Paisley and before his election worked for a small Scottish communications firm, helping advise the Royal Society of Chemistry and Asthma UK. A member of Dunfermline's Carnegie Harriers, he was runner-up in the Scottish Coal-Carrying Championships held in Kelty.
While a student, he was Depute President of the Student Union and after graduating with a degree in biology went on to work for the party in Cornwall. Willie was Chief Executive of the Scottish Liberal Democrats and the Party's Chief of Staff at the Scottish Parliament between 1997 and 2001. When in Parliament he was a member of the House of Commons Defence Select Committee, Shadow Defence Minister and Chairman of the Lib Dems’ Campaigns and Communications Committee.
