We respect the rights of human beings wherever they live and understand that by working together countries can achieve more than they can alone.
Liberal Democrats are internationalists. We respect the rights of human beings wherever they live and understand that by working together countries can achieve more than they can alone.
The UK’s rich web of global relationships gives us the potential to wield far greater influence than our economic or military power would do alone
Corporations, banks and markets now operate across the globe with little respect for national borders. Climate change, one of the greatest challenges of our age, is by its nature global. And criminals, hackers and terrorists now operate across borders, too. It is in the interests of all countries to act as a united force to together to tackle these challenges.
Liberal Democrats believe passionately in human rights and the rule of international law. We are proud that in Government we ratified the UN Arms Trade Treaty and delivered on our commitment to spend 0.7% of national income on international aid.
We believe that Britain must continue to work actively and constructively with our allies and partners in the European Union, Commonwealth, UN and NATO to engage with and develop policy responses that promote liberal internationalism and an international rules-based system.
We reject the isolationist and intolerant policies of the Tory Brexit government, and will fight to make Britain a more open and tolerant player on the global stage.
