Commenting on the appointment as Nicola Sturgeon as the new First Minister of Scotland, the Scottish Secretary Alistair Carmichael said:
“I send my warmest congratulations to Nicola Sturgeon. It’s a great honour to be elected First Minister, and to become the first female First Minister is an important landmark. Today’s election reflects her years of hard work as a lawyer in Drumchapel through to becoming an MSP and a Scottish Government Minister.
“We all know we can achieve more for the people of Scotland by working together. It is time to reset the relationship between Scotland’s two governments. We cannot keep obsessing over the referendum. Scotland had the vote, it was answered clearly, and the people in our country have made their decision. Let’s move on.
“In the days and weeks ahead we should look to agree areas where we can work together to create jobs, help those in Scotland who are most in need of it and promote Scottish excellence overseas so our businesses continue to grow and prosper.
"The UK Government will work closely with anyone who shares that agenda and I hope that this will in the future include the Scottish Government under Nicola Sturgeon’s leadership.”
