Beatrice Bass is a Swiss British dual national who grew up in Davos, Switzerland - home of the World Economic Forum. She is a liberal internationalist and speaks English, (Swiss) German and French.
Beatrice graduated with an MA in linguistics and mass communication studies before she pursued a career as a professional musician. She undertook worldwide touring as a bass player for indie rock, pop and blues artists (The Wedding Present, Ben Poole Band). Beatrice recently made a career change into law and started her training to become a solicitor. She currently works in dispute resolution with a focus on commercial law and IP rights.
Beatrice has lived in Brighton and Hove for 16 years and has actively promoted Liberal Democrat values as the chair of the campaigns committee. She has been passionately campaigning to remain in the EU with monthly EU street stalls and is a regular participant at national anti-Brexit marches.
As a former musician, Beatrice has been working to give a voice to the creative industry, which is currently under-represented in Parliament. She successfully initiated a new policy at the Liberal Democrat Conference 2019 to protect music venues through legislative changes, access to more funding, listing them as Assets of Community Value and collaboration with UK Music, the Music Venue Trust and the Arts Council. She is also lobbying to get the Agent of Change principle implemented in local planning law.
Beatrice is a member of the Lib Dems in Business group and is keen to boost collaboration between businesses, the public sector and research. When elected as MP for Hove and Portslade, Beatrice will work to get more capital investment in the south and more active government support for start-ups and SMEs.
Beatrice will give Hove a liberal voice for a liberal city!
