We will nurture and protect the UK’s thriving arts and culture sectors
Liberal Democrats are committed to nurturing and protecting the UK’s thriving arts and culture sectors.
We believe that access to culture, creativity and sport should be available to all, and that we should develop young people’s appreciation of these areas by ensuring they are embedded in the national curriculum.
We believe children should be given an opportunity to study arts, drama, dance and music at school and are deeply concerned that for many young people these subjects are being squeezed out of their normal school week.
Equally, school sports help to advance respect towards others and the health of our young people, and inspire many to continue pursuing sports outside of the school and on into adult life.
Supporting museums, galleries, and tourist attractions is key to developing our understanding of our country’s and others heritage and we recognise the importance of passing this knowledge down through the generations.
We believe in protecting and promoting a free and independent press and have fought the Government’s attempts to undermine the impartiality and public ownership of the BBC and Channel 4.
