Ewan was born and brought up in the South side of the city, attending Shawlands Academy before going on to study Zoology at the University of Glasgow. Ewan has additionally gained an MSc in Neuroscience from the Institute of Psychiatry in London, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Policy on his return to the University of Glasgow as a mature student.
Ewan has always been interested in the potential for political activity to transform people's lives for the better. He joined the Lib Dems in 2008 because they seemed like decent, open-minded people with a more honest approach and a deep respect for the evidence of what actually works. This stood in contrast with Labour's habit of saying whatever seems necessary to gain votes.
In attending Liberal Democrat conferences, Ewan always come away with renewed faith that a better society is achievable, and a great pride in our welcoming, compassionate and intellectually rigorous party. As a Liberal Democrat member he has made major contributions to the development of the party's drug policy and mental health policy, and has spoken with passion about many other issues, including student maintenance funding and isolation in old age.
