Hina Bokhari grew up in London where her father was a pioneering and inspirational headteacher, who was a campaigner for social justice. Above all else, he taught her the true value of education in unlocking opportunity for everyone and the need for everyone to have access to good local social services. Hina’s husband Martin and their two children were born in St Heliers Hospital and their young children will be going to schools in Sutton. Hina’s passion and vocation is as a teacher. Her grandfather was a headteacher, her father was a headteacher and her husband Martin is a teacher.
As a former teacher in Sutton, teaching in Manor Park, Green Wrythe Primary and The Avenue, Hina understands the challenges and needs of the local families. But like many teachers she saw that too many children are still left behind by our system, so she founded an educational charity, which has helped over 40,0000 disadvantaged young people.
But after everything she did she knew it was still not enough as she saw opportunities for young people too often being undermined by failing services or failing politicians. So Hina used her grassroots campaigning skills to become a councillor to fight for fair funding for schools. And yet she thinks this is still not enough to make the changes we need to see for our families in Sutton, Cheam and Worcester Park and the rest of the country and that is why she is running to become your next Member of Parliament.
