Ian Sharpe


Ian is a Fellow of the Chartered Certified Accountants and has an MBA from Henley Management college. He has held senior positions in the Power Generation and Aerospace industries. In recent years he has been focussed on developing renewable energy businesses. Ian is passionate about renewable energy and has been involved in the development and implementation of new technologies. Ian believes that the UK can be at the forefront of developing the renewal energy generation, distribution and storage technologies of the future. These technologies will be great for our environment and great for our economy.

Ian has been actively involved with the Liberal Democrats since the 1970s. He has served as Mayor, council chair and as Cabinet lead member for finance. He has led campaigns against the reduction in rail services, inappropriate housing developments and the development of a race track.

Ian has served as Governor for several schools and also for his local Further Education College. Ian has a deep interest in education, particularly vocational education and special educational needs. He is the Chair of the local branch of a charity, which supports University, college and  school learners in the development of their entrepreneurial skills. He has established a “dragon’s den” style competition for local University students and has developed mentoring programmes for local young people.

Ian is currently campaigning with parents of a local school, against the downgrading of SEN provision at their local school. He has also supported campaigns against the downgrading of Sure start provision in his area.

Ian is a passionate European and believes that Brexit of any sort would be a disaster for our country. He has served as Chair of the major pro-EU campaigning organisation in Leicestershire and organised action days, rallies and social media campaigns. Ian also organised an event where EU citizens could learn about their rights.
