John Studholme has been a European since 1962!
By profession he is a Chartered Surveyor. He has had his own practise in Cumbria and worked in Canada as a valuer and estate agent. During a two years break he travelled with his wife Barbara in North and South America and Africa and took an MSc from Reading University. He combined his work with being a Lib Dem Councillor for 20 plus years, becoming Mayor of Kendal and Chair of South Lakeland District Council.
John was Tim Farron's Campaign Chair for four years from 2002. During that time Tim became an MP and the Lib Dems took control of South Lakeland District Council. He has continued to support the Lib Dems locally ensuring 1,500 stake board sites in Westmorland and Lonsdale in 2010. John has set up telephone banks and recruited numerous council candidates.
Since 2015 he has focused on European matters, organising the Remain campaign in Cumbria and setting up branches of the European Movement in Manchester and Liverpool. He is North West Regional contact for the European Movement . In 2018/19 he has organised or supported 10 Brexitometers in Cumbria.
John believes that Remain is not only a political belief but a statement of who we are and where we want to go as a British nation. He believes in the EU because it has helped to deter war in Europe and brought the Baltic States and the southern and eastern Europeans into democratic, peaceful and prosperous cooperation.
If elected John would like to be a voice in particular for small towns and rural issues in the North West which he believes are often neglected.
