Julia is Carlisle’s LibDem Candidate for the next General Election, she has lived and worked in the City for 30 years. She is standing for a better, more tolerant and prosperous future for everyone in Carlisle. Regularly interviewed in the national press and on radio she is passionate ensuring the voices of our remote county are heard in London. Julia is an active campaigner experienced taking local issues to Westminster. Through her work bringing together agricultural and environmental interests she has successfully delivered change to improve the life of Cumbrians. This experience will enable Julia as Carlisle’s MP to address key issues such as flooding, promote local businesses, the agricultural sector, and address invest in new jobs and manufacturing to tackle the climate emergency.
Key issues Julia will demand in Westminster will be:
* Free School Meals for primary school pupils
* Support for small businesses and retail units
* A thriving manufacturing sector
* Faster Trains to Hexham, Newcastle and Whitehaven
* Improved social care as we age
* Equal funding for mental as for physical illnesses
Julia is a practicing chartered surveyor and a Professor in Practice at the University of Cumbria. Till June 2019 she served on Natural England’s Board and is an active Trustee of a Care Farm in Carlisle enabling those with mental health and behavioural challenges to transform their lives through learning and working outdoors. Julia also has worked in south-east Asia and has a passion for creating peaceful inclusive communities. She will work so Carlisle is a welcoming city for all who choose to live here and contribute to the life of this great and historic City.
