Debating Agriculture, Carbon and Biodiversity

The future of agriculture is the next topic up for discussion in a series of online public events organised by Montgomeryshire Liberal Democrats. An online panel debate on Thursday 15th October will discuss “How can land managers help Wales to go carbon neutral and restore biodiversity?”. Farmers, landowners, panellists, and voters will consider what land managers can do to help Powys go carbon neutral, restore biodiversity, and earn a decent living growing quality food.

The independent panellists include:
Arfon Williams - Head of Land & Sea Policy for RSPB Cymru, where his role focuses on securing restoration of wildlife and better outcomes for nature through nature-based climate solutions and the sustainable management of the land and seas of Wales. He previously worked for Welsh Government designing and delivering agri-environment schemes and has a mid-Wales farming background

Ffion Storer Jones - grew up on her family's farm in Montgomeryshire and has worked for a number of years on issues of food, farming, trade and development, both in Wales and internationally

Dr Liz Lewis Reddy Organic - Hill farmer, ADAS land use policy consultant and former Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust Head of Living Landscapes whose personal and professional life has focussed on revealing the cross sectoral value (economic and ecological) of a healthy and resilient natural environment

Martin Peck - Hirnant hill farmer. After dropping out of university, Martin set off on his travels. Back home he worked in factories, computing, adult and child psychiatric nursing, bus driving, farming and wwoof-ing. 30 odd years ago he persuaded the bank to lend him some money to buy 33 acres of upland which he has farmed organically while building an environmentally-friendly farm house predominantly from Larch and Douglas from the farm

Richard Jones - Montgomeryshire NFU County Vice Chair

In the Chair…

Alison Alexander – Montgomeryshire Liberal Democrats member, Kew-trained Botanical Horticulturist, and Community Gardener currently researching her Masters dissertation on historic and future land use in Powys

And anyone is welcome to take part!
