Laura’s background is in international development, where she worked for Oxfam, Save the Children and the Department for International Development responding to crises around the world. Responding to wars, droughts and disease, she saw first hand the impact of climate change on the most vulnerable, and gained experience managing large budgets in difficult circumstances.
Now self-employed, Laura lives in the heart of the constituency with her husband and daughter.
Since her selection in Sheffield Hallam, Laura has been a dedicated community champion. She led a successful campaign to save a local NHS walk in centre and minor injuries unit when they were threatened with closure, and worked with local councillors and communities to oppose Sheffield City Council’s disastrous tree-felling plans. She has also been an active campaigner against Brexit, and has helped residents with casework when Jared O’Mara closed his office.
If elected, along with stopping Brexit, Laura’s priorities would include funding for education, especially special educational needs, investment in Sheffield’s infrastructure to support businesses in the region to thrive, ensuring the NHS receives the funding it needs, and campaigning for urgent action on the climate emergency.
