Linda Johnson has been selected as the Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Haltemprice and Howden. Linda is an East Riding of Yorkshire Councillor, a Governor at East Riding College and a Circuit Steward, Local Preacher and Safeguarding Trainer of the Beverley Methodist Church. She also writes for a local magazine. Linda has lived in the East Riding with her family and husband Graham for decades – her father’s parents hail from Hessle and Goole.
Linda trained as a Biomedical Scientist and has a Masters in Business Administration. She worked for many years in the pharmaceutical industry, working for British, American and Japanese companies in sales, marketing and supply chain.
Linda’s passion is the earth, looking after it and the people who live on it. A member of the Green Liberal Democrats, she belongs to several environmental charities including the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. As an East Riding Councillor, Linda has been challenging the Council to respond to the Climate Emergency. She has also challenged the Council to replace their weed killers sprayed on public parks, road verges and near schools with an EF replacement that is not linked to causing cancer.
Linda is also campaigning on Conservative cuts to local schools. The East Riding is the third worse-funded area in the country. Between 2015 and 2020, Wolfreton School has suffered cuts of -£2.0 million, equivalent to a cut of 7 teachers; Anlaby Primary has been cut by £419K and Acre Heads by -£189K. Says Linda: “I think it is disgraceful that the Government has short-changed our children’s education. All of our schools have had, on average, a further £83,000 slashed from their budgets this year. Our pledge to expand and modernise our schools will ensure our teachers have the resources they need to provide the best education for our kids.”
