A unique evening with Lord Bill Rodgers & Baroness Lindsay Northover
As the major political parties start to fracture, Haringey Liberal Democrats would like to invite you to a unique evening looking at the last time there was a major split when the "Gang of Four" left Labour in 1981 to form the SDP. Join key figures from that period, Lord Bill Rodgers and Baroness Lindsay Northover on Thursday 16 May at 7.30pm for drinks and canapés.
Lord Bill Rodgers was one of the “Gang of Four” and by all accounts the key organiser in the split away from Labour in 1981. Later he led the successful “Yes to Unity” campaign within the SDP that resulted in the merger with the Liberal Party which would later become known as the Liberal Democrats.
Baroness Lindsay Northover joined the SDP in its early stages and was a parliamentary candidate in 1983 and 1987. She was later part of the SDP negotiating team for the merger.
Both will be recounting their experiences and looking at any similarities between then and now, as well as taking questions from attendees.
