Matthew has lived in the area since 1997 and is a governor at a local high school, attended by his daughter. Prior to that, Matthew and his family lived in the East Midlands.
Through his international role developing medical devices and pharmaceuticals, he sees how vital our trade links are, and the benefits of being able to travel and work across Europe. Matthew uses his experience to support businesses across the world, regularly organising workshops and delivering training events.
Away from work commitments, family, volunteering and politics are important aspects of his life.
A Governor at a local High School, Matthew has responsibility for resources, and oversight of support for students with special educational needs & disabilities. Previously, he was a local Primary School Governor. He sees the challenges faced by pupils, teachers and families as a result of significant underfunding of education; challenges that have been alleviated for disadvantaged students by LibDem Pupil Premium.
Matthew is campaigning for fairer funding for our schools are a natural consequence, driven by the belief that every child should have the opportunity for a high quality education - equipping them with the knowledge and capabilities for a fulfilling and productive life. He has also campaigned with local Liberal Democrats and others, since 2012, to stop rampant, unwarranted and inappropriate housing development - fighting for more social housing and homes that help people stay in the area.
Elected to Stapeley & District Council in 2013, in 2019 he was elected as Council Chair for a third time. He was a candidate in the 2019 Cheshire East Council election. He led a team of residents to create a Neighbourhood Plan that protects the hopes and aspirations of the community. Protections that were supported by Liberal Democrat policies for housing and sustainable development.
A long time environmental campaigner and Green Liberal Democrat, Matthew’s campaigning has been supported by Liberal Democrat led climate and sustainability legislation. He understands from personal experience the massive mental health and physical benefits people get from accessible waterways and green spaces, in our towns and rural areas.
