Mike has served as a Town and District Councillor, and was first elected as a Liberal Democrat in 1987. He has been Chairman of Uttlesford District Council, and Mayor of Saffron Walden (twice). Mike 's concern about the implications of a Hard Brexit extend beyond the issues of the single market, the customs union, protection of the rights of local residents who are EU citizens, and the free movement of labour. He has strong family links with Germany, and grew up in the shadow of two world wars.
