Posts for Election 2020

After each round of committee elections, the Federal Board elects a number of posts to serve for three years. Any member can stand for these posts and you can find out more about the process and how to get nominated here.

The posts up for election are:

  1. Vice President, responsible for working with BAME communities
  2. Registered Treasurer, who shall also be Chair of the Federal Finance & Resources Committee (FFRC)
  3. Treasurer, who shall be responsible for fundraising
  4. Chair of the Federal Communications & Elections Committee (FCEC)
  5. Five members of the Federal Finance & Resources Committee (FFRC)
  6. Six members of the Federal People Development Committee (FPDC)
  7. Chair of the Campaign for Gender Balance (CGB)
  8. Two Vice-Chairs of the Campaign for Gender Balance (CGB)
  9. Chair of the Racial Diversity Campaign (RDC)
  10. Two Vice-Chairs of the Racial Diversity Campaign (RDC)
  11. A Chair and three members of the Party Bodies Review group

There are also a number of other posts up for election at this point, which only members of the Federal Board are eligible to stand for.

  1. One or more Vice-Chairs of the Federal Board
  2. Two members of the Federal Communications and Elections Committee (FCEC)
  3. One representative on the Federal International Relations Committee (FIRC)
  4. One representative on the Federal Conference Committee (FCC)
  5. Two Members of the Chief Executive's Appraisal Panel

Lastly, there are six posts that are directly appointed by the Federal Board to the Federal Audit and Scrutiny Committee. Members being appointed must not have held office or been a member of any Federal Committee or a member of Federal Party staff during the two years preceding their nomination to the Committee.

 Role Description

1x Vice President BAME 

10 members or one local party 

The Vice President BAME is an ambassador and senior Board role who will work closely with the various Federal and State bodies that have a responsibility for delivering the aim of having proper representation internally and externally. They are a non-voting member of the Board. 

1x Chair of Federal Finance & Resources Committee & Registered Party Treasurer 

Nominated by 2 voting FB members  

This individual chairs the Federal Finance and Resource Committee and is the Registered Treasurer who has specific responsibilities in signing off the quarterly Electoral Commission donation returns as well as annual accounts and generally being the first point of contact for the Electoral Commission in relation to party administration. 

5x Members of Federal Finance & Resources Committee 

Each nominated by 2 voting FB members  

These individuals are members of Federal Finance and Resource Committee which oversees the Federal Party's finances and budget. 

1x Party Treasurer 

Nominated by 2 voting FB members  

This individual is the Federal Party's chief fundraiser and deals with large donors. This person sits on FB as a non-voting member and is a voting member of FFRC. 

1x Chair of Federal Communications and Elections Committee

Nominated by 2 voting FB members  

This individual chairs the Federal Communications and Elections Committee and Chairs General Election campaigns. They are responsible for providing direction on the party's electoral and communication strategy. 

6x Members of Federal People Development Committee

Each nominated by 2 voting FB members  

The Federal People Development Committee is responsible for Diversity, Membership and Training. 

6x Members of Federal Audit and Scrutiny Committee (Appointed rather than elected) 

Each nominated by 2 voting FB members  

FASC is responsible for commissioning the party’s auditors and for representing the party in any matters arising from the annual external audit. It may also commission and oversee internal audit work related to the work of the Federal Party either on its own initiative or as requested by the Federal Board. It oversees the party’s risk management operations and its risk register. Members are appointed rather than elected by the Board. Candidates should submit a CV rather than a 200 word summary.

1x Chair of Campaign for Gender Balance

Nominated by 2 voting FB members  

The Campaign for Gender Balance works to improve the gender diversity amongst Liberal Democrat elected representatives. The chair is responsible for the organisation including reporting back to federal conference. 

2x Vice-Chair of Campaign for Gender Balance

Each nominated by 2 voting FB members  

The Vice-Chairs support the Chair of the CGB in achieving its aims. 

1x Chair of Racial Diversity Campaign

Nominated by 2 voting FB members  

The Racial Diversity Campaign works to improve racial diversity amongst Liberal Democrat elected representatives.  The chair of this body is responsible for the organisation including reporting back to federal conference. 

2x Vice-Chair of Racial Diversity Campaign 

Each nominated by 2 voting FB members  

The Vice-Chairs will support the Chair of the RDC in achieving its aims across the party. 

1x Party Bodies Review Group Chair 

Nominated by 2 voting FB members  

Updated scope: This individual will undertake a strategic review of Party bodies, the way they operate and how they interrelate with the rest of the Party organisation. (The holder of this post will fulfil the role set down under the party's rules for the SAO Review Group chair.) 

3x Members of the Party Bodies Review Group 

Each nominated by 2 voting FB members  

Updated scope: These three individuals will support the group chair in their work (and will also fulfil the requirements under the party's rules of the SAO review group).

2 x Vice-Chairs of the Board 

Each nominated by 2 members of FB

The Vice Chair(s) will support the President in chairing the Board, deputising for the President and forming part of the Vice-Chair team assisting the President in putting together the agenda and papers for the Board. 

1x Representative to Federal Conference Committee

Nominated by 2 members of FB

This individual will represent the Federal Board on the Federal Conference Committee as a voting member. 

2x Representatives to Federal Campaigns and Elections Committee

Nominated by 2 members of FB

These individuals will represent the Federal Board on the Federal Communications and Elections Committee as voting members. 

1x Representative to Federal International Relations Committee

Nominated by 2 members of FB

This individual will represent the Federal Board on the Federal International Relations Committee as a voting member. 

2x Members of the Chief Executive's Appraisal Panel 

Nominated by 2 members of FB

These two individuals, will along with the President, form the Chief Executive's Appraisal Panel and will meet as required.
