The Regional Parties Committee (RPC) fulfils a vital role in the English Party overseeing compliance, members conduct and disciplinary action.
RPC sits as a sub-committee of the English Council Executive and is chaired by the Vice-Chair of the English Party. In addition to the Vice-Chair RPC is made up of the English Party Chair, the English Candidates Committee chair and 4 directly elected members from ECE.
RPC meets 6 times per year on weekday evenings starting from 6.30pm and extra meetings may be called as required. Work is also carried out by conference call or email. A special session for the regional chairs of local parties committees is also held at Autumn Conference. All information dealt with at meetings is highly confidential referring to what are often extremely sensitive cases, so documents and additional communications are handled on a need to know basis.
Committee members are also expected to take an active role in the investigation of complaints/issues that might bring the Party into disrepute and to sit as panel members on disciplinary hearings.
RPC welcomes a broad range of skills, legal expertise, conciliation and negotiating experience being particularly sought after. Backgrounds in education, mediation and human resources are also highly relevant.
A keen sense of confidentiality and an understanding of the need to engage with formal procedures is essential.
As with all English Party Committees all expenses above the first £15 can be claimed.
