Where we work
Through our work with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD), we make a tangible impact on the quality and space for political participation in many countries in the region in many vital areas. We actively support our sister-parties using unique peer-to-peer relationships as a learning model.
One of the key objectives of our work, especially in the former communist states, is to guide our partners through this transition period from post-communism to open, transparent and participative democracy.
We work in the Middle East and North Africa Region mostly through our WFD Programmes.
We also work very closely with the Arab Alliance of Freedom and Democracy (AAFD), which is comprised of Arab liberal parties and activists in the Arab world. AAFD is committed to the principles of freedom, responsibility, pluralism, tolerance, market economy, civil state and separation of religion from state affairs. The Alliance helps its member parties to promote liberal reforms for a life in peace and prosperity in the Arab world.
Most of our work in Sub-Saharan Africa is conducted through the Africa Liberal Network (ALN), with its secretariat based in Cape Town, South Africa.
The Africa Liberal Network (ALN) is an organisation composed of 44 political parties from 30 African countries, and is an associated organisation of Liberal International. The largest political network in Africa and the second largest network of liberal parties in the world, the ALN serves to promote liberal principles across the African continent.
