Sam is a local councillor in Greater Manchester and works as part of the Fair Tax Mark, combatting corporate tax avoidance. His previous experience includes work in marketing and journalism for over 20 years, including a considerable time working for the International Labour Organization and World Health Organization.
Having also worked for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Sam argues it is crucial for the UK that it is ahead of the curve on environmental policies, both to deliver benefits to society, but also to ensure that our industry can be a world leader. Stopping Brexit and keeping Britain in the EU is key to doing this.
In combatting tax avoidance, the only way to change things in the UK is to get global agreement. Too many people and companies are able to transfer money overseas within the rules and bypass domestic tax. The UK could be a leading voice for fairer tax – to do so we need to be leading the international system.
Sam says; "I am proud of my home, growing up in the north west of England. It has produced some of the greatest inventions, moments and people that the UK has seen. It has been a global powerhouse, leading world trade. It still can be. In order to do so, we must be an outward looking, international community – taking our country forward. I want to be at the forefront of that community."
