Vince Cable's keynote speech to Autumn Conference

Today Liberal Democrat Business Secretary Vince Cable gave his keynote speech to Autumn Conference.

Addressing Conference, Vince announced his plan to introduce a single minimum wage for apprentices

Vince said:

“The National Minimum Wage has successfully protected the incomes and jobs of the lowest paid workers in the UK.
“This year it will see the first above inflation rise in the minimum wage since the recession.

“Apprenticeships are helping to create a stronger economy and opportunities for young people. I want the minimum pay for apprentices boosted by £1 an hour.”

He also outlined his vision for the economy and said:

"We must also communicate to the country our long term vision of what we want the economy to look like: knowledge-based, outward looking and green."
