Lib Dems: Government must 'get a grip' on military base security
EMBARGO: Immediate Release
Following the United States' decision to withdraw its bombers from RAF Fairford after a security incident, Liberal Democrat Defence Spokesperson James MacCleary MP said:
"The decision by the United States to withdraw from RAF Fairford is a deeply concerning development that raises serious concerns about security standards across UK military bases. With three bases breached in the past year alone, this is not something the Defence Secretary, or the Country, can afford to ignore.
"Streeting promised a comprehensive security review of all military bases, following the security breach at RAF Brize Norton in June. Months on, where is it? Our service personnel give so much to keep this country safe, and we owe them that exact same protection. The Government must urgently get a grip and set out a clear, robust plan to ensure our military bases are properly secured and fit for purpose."
