Andy Burnham needs to wake up and smell the landfill. New Mayoral powers won’t cut it to tackle waste crime

Responding to the Government's announcement on Waste Crime, Tim Farron, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs, said:

“The Government is finally listening to our party’s calls for tougher fines for waste crime, but its measures fall woefully short for the communities that live around these sites.

"Andy Burnham needs to wake up and smell the landfill. New mayoral powers won’t cut it if the National Crime Agency isn't empowered to clear these illegal sites, and stop legal sites spiralling out of control. We need an independent review of the whole system to crack down on these organised gangs once and for all.”
