Anti-growth Treasury needed a shake up but Govt must do more to protect economy from Trumpflation
Responding to Andy Burnham’s plans to put economic growth into No 10 North’s hands, while latest inflation figures show rise to 2.9%, Liberal Democrat Treasury Spokesperson Daisy Cooper MP said:
“Families are bracing for an even tighter squeeze on their budgets, with energy bills, fuel, and the weekly shop all skyrocketing. The Government needs to do much more to bring down energy bills and get our sluggish economy growing again. Only then we will be able to protect ourselves from the shockwaves of Trumpflation and ease the cost of living.
"We Liberal Democrats proposed a new Department for Growth outside of Whitehall, and we’re pleased the Government have recognised that the anti-growth Treasury needs a shake up.
“They now need to turbocharge the economy with a new Growth and Defence Pact with the EU: joining the single market and a new customs union with the EU would be the single biggest growth lever they can pull."
