Brown-Fuller: "Something doesn't add up" with new Tory prison plans
Responding to the Conservative's plans to open 50,000 new prison places in 7 years, in part funded through cutting the International Aid budget to just 0.1% of GDP, Liberal Democrat Justice Spokesperson Jess Brown-Fuller MP said:
"The Conservative party left our justice system on the brink of collapse.
“After a decade where prison places grew by fewer than 500, surprise surprise the Tories now ‘have a plan’ to raise capacity by 50,000. Much like their economic plans, something doesn't add up.
"The public deserve a serious, fully costed strategy to fix our prison system and a plan to lower reoffending rates, not fantasy numbers funded by breaking promises."
