CCC report: Govt need to be doing more

25 Jun 2025

EMBARGO: 00:01 - 25 Jun 2025

Commenting on the report from Climate Change Committee, which said that the cost of electricity must be cut so people feel the cash benefits of moving to clean tech, Liberal Democrat Energy Security Spokesperson Pippa Heylings MP said:

"Many people are worried about the heatwaves, droughts, floods and wildfires that are becoming more frequent with climate change. They want the Government to be doing more and the Committee on Climate Change is pointing the way.

"The Liberal Democrats are calling for free insulation and heat pumps for people on low incomes as part of a 10 year home upgrade programme to make homes cheap to heat, warm in winter and cool in summer.

"The cost of living crisis has not gone away. We have to make electricity cheaper and bring down energy bills. We also need to see a social tariff for energy introduced to protect the most vulnerable from sky-high bills."
