CIPD Report: Govt's jobs tax has dealt an "absolute hammer blow to businesses"
EMBARGO: 00:01 Monday 11th August
Responding to the CIPD’s latest Labour Market Outlook, which found cost pressures and the Govt's NICs hike have lead to record low in private sector hiring plans, Liberal Democrat Treasury Spokesperson Daisy Cooper MP said:
“The Government's jobs tax is utterly misguided. It’s dealt an absolute hammer blow to businesses across the country, especially to vitally important people-intensive sectors such as social care and hospitality, forcing many to cut costs and pause recruitment.
“Firms are still reeling from the economic mismanagement of the previous Conservative Government, which damaged business confidence and saddled them with mountains of red tape.
“If the Chancellor is serious about helping businesses and delivering growth, she must scrap the jobs tax, fix our broken business rates system and get on with negotiating a bespoke UK-EU Customs Union to free up British businesses to trade more easily.”
