Davey on GE Anniversary: Liberal Democrats pushing Government to go “further and faster” on NHS, care and economy

3 Jul 2025

EMBARGO: 22.30 Thursday 3rd July

One year on from the 2024 General Election, Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey said:

“One year ago, Liberal Democrats won a record 72 seats, becoming the largest third party in Parliament in 100 years. Right across the country people turned to the Liberal Democrats to be their local champions because they know we listen to communities and work hard to deliver for them.

“After years of Conservative chaos and neglect left us with a cost-of-living crisis and local health services crumbling, people across the country want to see far more ambition and urgency from this Government.

“Our team of 72 Liberal Democrat MPs have pushed the Government to go further and faster in fixing the NHS and social care, and demanded a bolder plan to boost the economy including by fixing our relationship with Europe.

“Liberal Democrats are providing a real alternative for all those who can’t forgive the Conservative Party but are disappointed by this Labour government.”
