Davey: The country is burning, reconvene COBRA immediately

Responding to the continued heatwave which is causing havoc across the country Lib Dem Leader, Ed Davey, said:

“The country is burning – devastating wild fires in the Midlands and the New Forest, hospitals dangerously overheating and the heat’s impact on our railways – and Andy Burnham’s only solution so far seems to be preventing the sale of disposable barbecues.

“With the fifth hottest day on record, and Britain’s fifth heatwave of the year, we’re well past that. Burnham needs to reconvene COBRA immediately and set out a proper plan. That plan needs to fully meet this moment, a proper strategy to make the UK climate-ready for this summer and beyond.

“Reform might be celebrating winning a by-election against a bin, but Farage’s priorities are clear: he would have us rely even more on fossil fuels to the detriment of our wonderful country and the benefit foreign dictators like Putin. Badenoch would cheer him on in the process, desperate as her party is to chase Reform’s tail on this.”
