Delayed county council elections to go ahead in 2026: Lib Dems put Badenoch on notice

4 Dec 2025

EMBARGO: Immediate Release

Responding to news that county council elections delayed last year will now go ahead in 2026, despite requests from Conservative council leaders for them to be postponed again, Liberal Democrat Local Government Spokesperson Zöe Franklin MP said:

“Democracy delayed is democracy denied, and the Government has behaved disgracefully. Now that, at last, the Government has confirmed that county council elections will go ahead in 2026, we are putting Kemi Badenoch on notice. In election after election across the country, it's the Liberal Democrats who are winning, and winning against Reform and the Conservatives.”
