Ed Davey on water bills rising: This price hike is a kick in the teeth

Responding to reports that water firms are set to increase bills by as much as 40%, Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey said: 

"This price hike is a kick in the teeth whilst these firms payout insulting dividends to overseas investors and big bonuses to CEOs. The days of profit before the environment must end.

"Where on earth is the Government on this? Conservative Ministers are standing by as the water industry descends into chaos and scandal. The water industry has become like the Wild West, with no rules and no consequences for scandals committed. 

"This has to be a watershed moment for the industry. We need Thames Water and all other water firms reformed from top to bottom."
