Fly tipping clean up: It is about time the Govt wakes up to the scale of the crisis

Responding to the announcement that the Government will fund some of the cost for cleaning up the worst fly tipping waste sites, Calum Miller, MP for Bicester and Woodstock - the constituency that holds the Kidlington mountain of waste, said:

"It's about time the Government started to wake up to this environmental crisis and set out plans to clean-up the the waste mountains that have plagued our communities like the one here in Kidlington.

"For too long, successive governments have stood by whilst waste crime has spiralled out of control. Clearing these toxic sites must be a priority but the Government has got to clamp down on criminal gangs to prevent these pile ups in the first place.

“Liberal Democrats urge the Government to ensure the NCA or new National Police Service takes over investigations into serious waste crime. We also need an independent review of the entire waste crime system to crack down on organised gangs once and for all. New powers for the Environmental Agency simply won't cut it.”
