Heathrow third runway: Govt must halt expansion until “emissions framework” is in place

Responding to the Government choosing Heathrow’s preferred plan for a third runway, Olly Glover MP, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Transport, said:

"Greenlighting a new Heathrow runway is a monumental mistake. By obsessing over Heathrow, the Government is all but sacrificing their climate pledges.

“New transport projects are vital for our economy but must support the UK’s climate targets and not hinder them. The nightmare that moving the M25 motorway alone will cause should be warning enough against this plan.

“Liberal Democrats oppose this expansion and call on the Government to put a moratorium on net airport expansion until they have a national capacity and emissions management framework in place.”
