Hospice crisis: Govt is "turning a blind eye" as the system spirals out of control

29 Oct 2025

EMBARGO: 0001 Wednesday 29th October

Responding to an NAO report which found hospices have been forced to cut back services for people who are dying due to multimillion-pound funding deficits, Liberal Democrat Care and Carers Spokesperson, Alison Bennett MP said:

"For too long, the vital role played by hospices in our health and care system has been overlooked, and its patients are paying the price. This must change, patients and their families deserve so much better.

“Rather than tackle this crisis, the Government is turning a blind eye as the system spirals out of control, leaving families to watch their loved ones struggle with avoidable stress, isolation and discomfort in their final days.

“Liberal Democrats have a plan to save our hospices, to make the Government tackle this crisis head on, and finally take the urgent action that hospices - and thousands of families - are crying out for."
