Lammy opening door to direct UK strikes needs urgent clarification and Parliamentary vote
Responding to Lammy backing direct UK strikes in the Middle East on BBC Breakfast this morning, Calum Miller MP, Liberal Democrat Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, said:
"The Deputy Prime Minister is sliding down the slippery slope to full conflict by backing direct UK strikes on military positions in Iran.
"We need an urgent clarification from number 10 on whether this is a change in Britain’s position on involvement in Trump’s illegal war.
"Another Labour government cannot be allowed to pull the wool over the public’s eyes as it follows America into an overseas war with unclear goals conflict abroad.
"British citizens caught up in the conflict, including our brave troops, have to be protected. Any offensive action must be approved by a vote in Parliament. The Prime Minister committed to this. We must not copy Trump’s unconstitutional and illegal approach to war in the Middle East.”
