Lib Dem MP calls for full parliamentary investigation following Sara Sharif report

13 Nov 2025

EMBARGO: Immediate Release

Responding to today’s Surrey County Council report into their contact with Sara Sharif in the years and months before her murder, Liberal Democrat MP for Woking Will Forster said.

“The review I called for a year ago into the appalling murder of Sara Sharif confirms what I feared – that the state, and especially Surrey County Council, failed Sara at every stage. All the warning signs were there, yet they were not acted upon.

"It is now painfully clear that Sara’s murderers exploited loopholes in the home education system to conceal their abuse. Legislation is urgently needed to prevent this happening again.

"Given the scale of these failings, a full parliamentary investigation must take place. The Executive Director for Children, Families and Lifelong Learning, Rachael Wardell, needs to appear before MPs as soon as possible."
