Lib Dems: Conservatives sending in police “to clean up mess they left behind”

25 Oct 2025

EMBARGO: 22:00  - 25th Saturday, October 2025

In response to the Conservatives’ announcement on deploying more police to violent “hot spots” if they return to power, Max Wilkinson, Liberal Democrat Home Affairs Spokesperson, said:

“The Conservatives are sending in the police to clean up the mess they left behind. They have completely failed to learn the lessons from their historic election defeat.

“Policing is at a crisis point. The former Conservative government destroyed neighbourhood policing and left our communities to pay the price. This Labour government has done too little to change course. Communities feel abandoned and victims are waiting years for justice.

“The Liberal Democrats will keep fighting for a return to proper community policing, with more bobbies on the beat and a staffed police desk in every community. That’s how we keep neighbourhoods safe.”
